Questions people ask

Can people in India trade Bitcoin options?

Yes. Delta Exchange India offers Bitcoin, Ethereum and Gold options to Indian users. Tax rules for crypto in India are specific, so keep records of every trade and check them with a tax adviser.

How much money do I need to start?

To buy one Bitcoin option lot, only its premium: a quote of 1,000 per BTC costs 1 USDT per lot. Selling needs margin on top. Start small, and on paper.

What is the lot size of Bitcoin options?

One lot is 0.001 BTC on Delta Exchange India. Quotes are per one Bitcoin, so multiply the quote by 0.001 for the cost of one lot. Ethereum lots are 0.01 ETH and Gold lots 0.001 XAUT.

What time do Bitcoin options expire in India?

Bitcoin and Ethereum options on Delta Exchange India settle at 5:30 pm India time (12:00 UTC), every day. Weekly contracts settle on Friday and monthly contracts on the last Friday of the month. Gold options settle at 9:30 pm.

Do I receive Bitcoin when my option expires?

No. The options are cash-settled: an option that ends in the money pays the difference in USDT, and one that ends out of the money expires worthless. No coin changes hands.

Should a beginner buy or sell options?

Buying is simpler to control, because the most you can lose is the premium. Selling wins more often but can lose much more than it collects, so it needs a stop loss or a hedge. Many beginners start with bought options or spreads.

Can I automate Bitcoin options trading?

Yes. Algoclear connects to your own Delta Exchange India account with a trade-only API key that cannot withdraw, and runs your strategy with automatic stops and adjustments.

Can I practise without real money?

Yes. Every lesson here runs on real prices with no account. In Algoclear, paper trading runs a strategy on live prices with real fees and no real orders; it is part of Pro.

What you need before you start

Four things, none of them large.

  • An account with Delta Exchange India, verified. It is the exchange that lists the options; Algoclear is a tool that works on top of it.
  • A small balance you can afford to lose. One lot is a thousandth of a Bitcoin, so a first trade can cost a dollar or two.
  • The basics: what a call and a put are, and what the premium buys. Each lesson takes about five minutes.
  • A rule for getting out, decided before you get in.

How to place your first Bitcoin options trade, step by step

The same six steps apply whether you trade by hand on the exchange or through a tool.

  1. 1

Open and verify your account. Sign up with Delta Exchange India and complete its verification. Your funds and positions stay with the exchange from start to finish.

  2. 2

Fund the account. Add a balance using the methods the exchange supports. Option prices, profit and loss are shown in USDT, a coin that stays worth about one US dollar.

  3. 3

Decide your view. Up, down or sideways, and by when. A view has a direction and a deadline; the deadline decides the expiry.

  4. 4

Choose the expiry and the strike. Bitcoin has an expiry every day, a weekly one every Friday and a monthly one. A strike near today's price costs more and reacts faster; one further away is cheaper and needs a bigger move. The option chain lists them all.

  5. 5

Size it from the loss, not the gain. Decide the most you will lose on this trade, then choose the lots to fit. For a bought option that loss is the premium. For a sold one, set the stop first and size to it.

  6. 6

Place it, with the exit decided. Enter the order, and set the stop loss and the target at the same time. Then let the plan run; most losses that hurt come from changing the plan halfway.

A first trade, worked in numbers

An example with round numbers; the card at the top of this page shows today's real ones. Say Bitcoin is at 80,000 and you expect a rise this week. The weekly 81,000 call is quoted at 900 per Bitcoin.

You buy 10 lots, which is 0.01 BTC, for 900 × 0.01 = 9 USDT. That 9 USDT is the most this trade can lose. The entry fee is 0.01% of the notional plus 18% GST: 80,000 × 0.01 = 800 USDT of notional, so about 0.09 USDT.

Your breakeven at expiry is the strike plus the premium: 81,900. If Bitcoin settles at 84,000, the call is worth 3,000 per Bitcoin, which is 30 USDT on your 10 lots: a profit of 21 USDT before fees. If Bitcoin settles anywhere below 81,000, the call expires worthless and you lose the 9 USDT, never more.

The same sum, with a slider, is in the lesson on breakeven and chance of profit.

Buying or selling: which side to start on

Every option has a buyer and a seller, and the two sides feel very different.

Buying an optionSelling an option

Most you can makeLarge, if the move comesThe premium
Time passingWorks against youWorks for you
Wins how oftenLess oftenMore often
What it needsA move, soon enoughA stop loss or a hedge

Sellers are paid for carrying risk, which is why selling options comes with a stop or a hedge. A spread, one option bought and one sold, sits in between: smaller cost, capped loss.

What trading costs

Two costs, both small per trade and both worth knowing. The exchange fee on options is 0.01% of the underlying notional, capped at 10% of the premium, plus 18% GST, paid on entry and again on exit; an option left to expire pays the entry fee only. The second cost is the spread: you buy at the ask and sell at the bid, and the gap is widest on strikes far from the price.

On very short, very cheap options, fees become a large share of what you collect. The page on Delta Exchange option fees works the sum on a real trade.

Risks, and the mistakes beginners make

Options are not dangerous by themselves; a few habits are.

  • Selling options with no stop and no hedge. It works for weeks, then one move takes it all back.
  • Buying options that are very cheap because they are very unlikely. A low price is not a bargain.
  • Sizing from the hoped-for gain. Size from the loss you can accept.
  • Holding a bought option into its last hours. Time decay is fastest at the end.
  • Forgetting that Bitcoin trades all night and all weekend. A stop that only works while you watch is not a stop.

USDT, rupees and keeping records

Prices, premiums, profit and loss on Delta Exchange India are shown in USDT, so the arithmetic in these lessons is in USDT too. How you add and withdraw money is between you and the exchange, and its own help pages are the place to check the current methods.

Crypto has its own tax rules in India. Keep a record of every trade, and ask a tax adviser how they apply to you. Algoclear keeps a full history of every run and every fill, which makes the record-keeping easier; it does not give tax advice.

When to automate

Once your rules are written down, a machine follows them better than a tired person at 3 am. Algoclear runs a strategy on your own Delta Exchange India account through a trade-only API key that cannot withdraw: it enters on your schedule, checks every open position every second, and exits at your stop, your target or your adjustment rule.

Start by paper trading the same rules. Easy Options turns a simple view into a ready trade, and the lesson on automating a strategy shows where each control lives.
