The short answer
Is Delta Exchange legal in India? Yes. It is run by Excelium Technologies Private Limited, an Indian company registered with FIU-IND as a crypto service provider (VA00041101). The finance ministry listed it among registered providers in Lok Sabha answers of December 2024 and March 2026, and it has never been among the offshore apps FIU-IND acted against. Crypto is legal to trade but unregulated: registration covers money-laundering rules, not investor protection.

What registration does not give you
FIU-IND registration means Delta follows India's anti-money-laundering rules. It is not a licence, an approval or a promise of safety. The government told Parliament in March 2026 that it keeps the register private because publishing it "could mislead users into assuming regulatory protection or recourse". Crypto is unregulated: trade only with money you can afford to lose.
The offshore apps India has acted against
The money-laundering rules apply to any exchange serving Indians, wherever it is based. These did not register.
| When | Platforms named | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| December 2023 | 9: Binance, KuCoin, Huobi, Kraken, Gate.io, Bittrex, Bitstamp, MEXC Global, Bitfinex | Notices, and their websites blocked. Binance and KuCoin registered later; Binance registered with FIU-IND on 15 August 2024, after a ₹18.82 crore penalty. |
| October 2025 | 25, including BingX, Phemex, BitMEX, Poloniex, CoinEx, LBank, Paxful and BC.game | Notices; apps and websites ordered taken down |
| September 2026 | 15, including Weex, BloFin, Bitunix, Pionex, XT.com, WhiteBIT and Toobit | Notices; takedown of apps and websites started |
By March 2026 the government's takedown list held 53 offshore names, OKX and Bitget among them. Delta Exchange India is on none of these lists.
Check any exchange yourself
Five minutes before you deposit a rupee, on Delta or anywhere else.
- Find the FIU-IND registration number. Delta prints its own, VA00041101, in its website footer.
- Find the company in the government's lists. FIU-IND does not publish one; the finance ministry's Lok Sabha answers do: 47 names in December 2024, 54 in March 2026.
- Check the takedown lists too. An exchange named in FIU-IND's notices was serving Indians without registering.
- Money moves in rupees, through your own bank account. Delta pays withdrawals only to a bank account in your name.
- Be wary of funding through strangers. Buying USDT from another user (P2P) leaves no exchange accountable for that step, and P2P platforms such as Paxful and Remitano are on the government's takedown list.
- Check which Delta you are on. Delta Exchange Global is a different company in Panama that does not take Indian residents. Indians use Delta Exchange India.

Is crypto trading legal in India?
Yes. No Indian law bans buying, selling or trading crypto, and that includes futures and options on it. The closest India came to a ban was in April 2018, when the Reserve Bank of India told the banks it regulates to stop serving crypto businesses. On 4 March 2020 the Supreme Court set that circular aside as disproportionate, in Internet and Mobile Association of India v. Reserve Bank of India, and banks could serve exchanges again.
Since then the government has chosen to tax and supervise crypto rather than ban it. The 2022 Budget brought a 30% tax on income from transferring virtual digital assets, and 1% TDS on transfers. In March 2023 crypto service providers became reporting entities under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act: they must register with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND), verify every customer and report suspicious transactions.
What crypto is not is a regulated investment. The finance ministry told Parliament in 2023, and again in February 2026, that crypto assets are unregulated in India, while trades in them stay subject to the money-laundering and income-tax laws. Legal and unregulated is the honest summary: you may trade, and no regulator stands behind the product.
Delta Exchange India's registration, checked
Delta Exchange India is run by Excelium Technologies Private Limited, a company incorporated in India with its registered office in Mumbai. Its terms of use put your account under Indian law, with disputes settled by arbitration seated in New Delhi. It launched in June 2024 saying it had registered with FIU-IND, and it prints its registration number, VA00041101, in its website footer.
FIU-IND does not publish its register, and in March 2026 it explained why: a public list might be read as a licence or an endorsement. The lists that exist come from Parliament. In a Lok Sabha answer on 2 December 2024 the finance ministry named the 47 registered providers, among them "Excellium Technologies Pvt Ltd – Delta Exchange". On 30 March 2026 it named 54, with Excelium Technologies Private Limited trading as Delta Exchange.
The other side of the record is clean too. Delta has never been among the offshore exchanges FIU-IND served notices on, it does not appear on FIU-IND's page of compliance and penalty orders, and its apps are live in India on the App Store and on Google Play, with 5 million+ installs.
The offshore apps India has blocked
The money-laundering rules apply by activity, not address: an exchange that serves Indians must register with FIU-IND wherever it is based. Offshore exchanges that did not were served notices under section 13 of the PMLA, and their apps and websites were blocked through orders under the IT Act.
The first 9, in December 2023, included Binance and KuCoin. Both registered later: Binance registered with FIU-IND on 15 August 2024, after a ₹18.82 crore penalty. Another 25 followed in October 2025 and 15 in September 2026. By March 2026 the government's takedown list ran to 53 names, from OKX and Bitget to P2P platforms such as Paxful.
Why it matters to a trader: a takedown can cut Indian users off from an app or website without notice. A registered, rupee-settled Indian exchange avoids that risk, and for F&O traders it is also where the volume is. Delta Exchange India traded $8.41 billion of futures and options in the 24 hours to the early hours of 5 November 2026, the most of any rupee crypto exchange in India that publishes its volume.
What registration covers, and what it does not
Registration is about money laundering. It means Delta verifies who you are (PAN and Aadhaar through DigiLocker, a selfie, and a ₹1 check on your bank account), keeps records, and reports suspicious transactions to FIU-IND. It also means the government knows who runs the exchange, and where.
It is not investor protection. No regulator vets crypto products, there is no protection fund of the kind share investors have, and the government said as much when it chose not to publish the register. Treat any exchange balance as money at risk, and keep on it only what you trade with.
Two things narrow the risk on Delta. You never hand it coins: it takes rupees, trades contracts and pays rupees back, which at launch it said does away with the risks of holding crypto for users. And a withdrawal can only go to a bank account in your own name.
Registered is not the same as approved
No crypto exchange in India is licensed or approved by a regulator, Delta included. What sets the registered ones apart is that they answer to Indian law on who their customers are and where money goes.
Delta Exchange India and Delta Exchange Global are not the same
Delta Exchange Global is run by Bit Protocol S.A. (Panama). It settles in USDT, BTC or ETH, no rupees, its terms exclude residents of India, the US, Canada, the UK, most of the EU and the UAE, and it is not on the government's list of registered providers. As an Indian resident you are not allowed to use it.
Delta Exchange India is the one built for Indians: an Indian company, rupee settlement and FIU-IND registration. If a link or an ad sends you to the Global site, you are on the wrong one.
The rules you live by as a Delta trader
You must be 18 or older and resident in India, with PAN and Aadhaar for KYC. Money comes and goes in rupees only, by UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, to and from a bank account in your own name.
Tax applies as on any income. Delta deducts 1% TDS only on spot sales, none on futures and options, and its view is that F&O profit is taxed at your slab rate. The income-tax department has not ruled on crypto derivatives, and a cautious reading taxes them at 30%. Report every trade, and use a chartered accountant.
Questions
Is Delta Exchange legal in India?: your questions
Is crypto trading legal in India in 2026?
Yes. No law bans it. The Supreme Court struck down the RBI's 2018 banking ban in March 2020; since 2022 crypto income is taxed, and since 2023 exchanges must register with FIU-IND. Crypto is still unregulated as an investment, so there is no investor protection.
Is Delta Exchange registered with FIU-IND?
Yes. Its operator, Excelium Technologies Private Limited, holds FIU-IND registration VA00041101, printed in Delta's website footer, and it is in the finance ministry's Lok Sabha lists of registered providers of December 2024 and March 2026.
Is Delta Exchange regulated by SEBI or the RBI?
No. Crypto is unregulated in India, so neither SEBI nor the RBI oversees crypto exchanges or their products. Delta's registration is with FIU-IND under the money-laundering law, which covers KYC and reporting, not investor protection.
Is Delta Exchange an Indian company?
Yes. Delta Exchange India is run by Excelium Technologies Private Limited, incorporated in India under the Companies Act, 2013, with its registered office in Mumbai. Its terms put your account under Indian law. Delta Exchange Global is a separate company in Panama that does not accept Indian residents.
Why were Binance and other offshore exchanges blocked in India?
They served Indian users without registering with FIU-IND, which the money-laundering law requires of any crypto exchange serving Indians. FIU-IND served notices and had their apps and websites blocked: 9 in December 2023, 25 in October 2025 and 15 in September 2026. Binance registered in August 2024, after a penalty.
Is my money safe on Delta Exchange India?
Registration makes Delta answerable under Indian law, but it is not a guarantee: crypto is unregulated and there may be no recourse for a loss. Delta holds rupees, not your coins, and pays withdrawals only to your own bank account. Keep on it only what you trade with.
Can I use Delta Exchange Global from India?
No. Delta Exchange Global is run by Bit Protocol S.A. (Panama), and its terms exclude residents of India. Indians use Delta Exchange India. India vs Global, compared.
